Improving the handling and execution of options trades here at C2

Matt and team:

Please take some time to work on how options trades are handled, specifically option spreads, rather than using resources to keep changing the look and feel of the site. I care less about how the C2 interface looks and more about how C2 handles trades.

You guys do a great job on stocks (and futures) but are behind the curve on options trades. I would love to be able to place an option spread as a limit order on the value of the spread, raher than keep chasing the prices on both legs to try to get the value I want. Almost every brokerage you work with allows this type of trade, and subscribers to Pangolin IC are reluctant to autotrade the system because of these issues.

Thanks for your efforts to date, and hoping that you’ll turn some energy toward this need.

This post above was from 12 years ago and I’m not sure much has changed since then. I’ve subscribed to two systems (https://collective2.com/performance/152825631 and https://collective2.com/details-list/150989948) that have not handled the spreads correctly, as well as another one that I am considering (https://collective2.com/details/153146907). Being able to handle the spreads based on limit orders as described above would be ideal.

Given that we are currently limited to only Market orders with BrokerConnect, it still should do a better job for the subscribers. Right now, the sell side of the spread often is issued before the long side. Unless there is enough equity in the account to handle the naked short position, the trade will fail. Several minutes later, the Autosync function will kick in and the short trade will execute (but usually at a worse price). I had to drop one of the systems due to this issue, and may end up having to drop the other one soon. I think this is really hurting the managers of this type of strategy. It seems like a relatively simple fix, but perhaps not.

+1 I’m subscribed to https://collective2.com/details/153146907 and execution issues exactly as Gary described above are really hurting. Got no response from customer support, too. This system is clearly not mature enough to deal with even simple options strategies like vertical spreads, very disappointing as there are good strategy managers here, with very promising results and potential.

Gary,

As you know I’ve been around on C2 with ETF Timer for 18 years now.

When I started back then I tried to run an options strategy, but I had to abandon it because C2 never has properly handled option spreads, especially in regard to buying power.

I have discussed this with Matthew on several occasions over the years, but it really hasn’t improved. We still would have to place 2 separate trades to execute an option spread, instead of just one trade.

This would be a good topic to discuss at the next C2 Town Hall meeting!

So until it’s fixed, I’ll just continue with ETF Timer and not trade options on C2.

Best regards, Jim

I 100% agree. It is basically not possible to trade complex strategies.
And the stats for option trades are also buggy.
