How is a profitable month defined for purposes of systems subscriptions? Does the system have to close a trade in the month to be considered profitable, or is an increase in total portfolio value (cash + open P/L) considered a profit (i.e. realized profit or unrealized)?
It is "total account value" - i.e. open positions + closed positions + cash. In that way, we prevent vendors from gaming the system (by refusing to close losing positions, for example).
