Who is entering trades on my system?

Matthew - There was an erroneous trade entered on my system (OC55 - by someone or something) just before the market closed yesterday. This prevented me from entering the correct new trade I wanted to make. Then, I look this morning at it and there are three new trades that have magically shown up that I didn’t enter. What is going on? Has someone gained access and is messing with people’s systems?

You had a margin call. You received an email explaining why. Check your spam folder.

I did not enter the margin order. Where did that come from? Look at my history. I only BTO QLD and QID - never STO anything.

Please correct the order your system goofed up (STO 334 QLD) and enter the original order I would have put in if your system had not gotten it wrong (BTO QID 465). If you can’t do that, negate the STC 148 QLD and I will handle it myself first thing Monday morning. Thanks.

A "margin call" is a term that means you do not have enough capital in your account to support the positions you opened and thus the broker has closed your positions. C2 simulates margin calls to prevent system developers from opening positions beyond their available capital.

Your reply makes no sense. I know what a margin call is. I am not stupid. I am not arguing that.

I want you to remove the incorrect trade your system posted that I did not request. STO 334 QLD at 15:52 Thursday Dec.31, 2009. That will take care of all the margin calls that should never have happened.

I studied the logs and now I think I see what happened.

You were long 148 shares of QLD.

You logged into C2 and entered an order to SELL 482 shares. (Perhaps you meant to type 148?)

In any case, that translated into an order to close the long position and then sell short the incremental 334 shares. So it appears that you entered the order and that there wasn’t any sort of software mistake.

This order then over-margined your account. If you have any other questions about this particular incident, email me at matthew at collective2.com

Sorry, you are right. I had an incorrect value in my spreadsheet. My bad. Sorry for accusing your system of faulty operation. I will email you with some questions. Thanks.
