Would you consider the following 2 suggestions?
1) Add the column "market value" (# shares * price) to the open trade list. This is a key field and would help to see at a glance if the system is allocated proportionally across all securities.
2) In the trade screen, give the system vendor a choice of using "# of shares" (current way) or "$ amount" when entering a new trade. Again, this would help to keep a portfolio distributed equally across multiple securities. This is extremely important for lower priced stocks during high volatility periods.
