There is a substantial risk of loss in trading. You should therefore carefully consider
whether such trading is suitable for you in light of your financial condition. You should read,
understand, and consider the Risk Disclosure Statement that is provided by your broker
before you consider trading. Most people who trade lose money.
Oh yeah I think anyone who is really interested in trading went through this excessive development phase. So long until you get it right and look for the structural advantages in a market. That´s the point when true robustness and longevity starts but also when returns become more modest. ^^
If your goal is to compete with the other hundreds of high flying systems here, curve fitted systems are certainly a good idea. As we can see chances are good that you live well off subscriptions. At least for a while.
You “hit the nail on the head” or maybe the “Golden Spike with a sledge hammer!” The excessive development phase happened for me in 2010 when I was using the TS Genetic optimizer to optimize parameters for my own EL function exhaustive optimizer that re-optimized a development strategy on a daily basis. (If it sounds crazy and confusing, it is) Basically, I was optimizing my optimizer to the point that the dev strat was curve-fitting to the noise in the market. The backtest results looked over twice as good anything seen in the past on that type of strategy. The forward results were trash.
That is what finally go me interested in modest and robust systems that run well over a long time. The growth can be compounded if you understand the trade size money management in the context of the system characteristics. There is no cookie cutter shortcut formula or hack that generates long-term success.
C2 will only be an option for my systems if they generate enough interest to pay for themselves. That includes the phase where they are building a live track record. The operational overhead required to manage a system on C2 demands that it generate a return on the input effort.
The above statement may not be a realistic expectation that I am imposing on C2 (in my honest opinion). That is okay with me because in the long run I must get paid for the work that I do because I do not have a goat to trade for some hens: we live in a money centered world and not a village of barterers.
Thank you all for listening to my soapbox rant. May you, the determined few, grow in self-discipline and rise to the top and succeed beyond your wildest dreams!
That goal is really easy to achieve. I assume that you offer good systems. So trade them by yourself, get money for listing fees, and treat subscription fees as additional income.
On the topic of systems, please have a look at mine. Almost 3 months in and building a respectable track record. I think its very important to investors to be able to see the honesty of a system, something easy to understand and consistent. This is what I am striving for. https://collective2.com/details/113662886
