Shorting cryptos not allowed

I signed up for the bitcoin trading betatest. Yesterday I tried to short it and was given the message it can not be.

Well, I could understand this rule a year ago when bitcoin was very volatile, but it won’t be a popular trading vehicle if we can only bet in one direction. The risk of running up high is pretty small now and that is what margins are for.

So is there a plan to allow bitcoin shorting in the future?

There are no crypto exchanges where shorting is currently available.

You can (in theory) short the regulated CME/CBOE Bitcoin futures contract (if your broker allows it).

" Short selling on cryptocurrency exchanges

For more advanced crypto asset investors who are comfortable trading on digital asset exchanges, there are several platforms that offer “physical” bitcoin short selling on margin. Poloniex, Kraken, GDAX, and Bitfinex are examples of popular exchanges that enable their users to short bitcoin."
