There is a substantial risk of loss in trading. You should therefore carefully consider
whether such trading is suitable for you in light of your financial condition. You should read,
understand, and consider the Risk Disclosure Statement that is provided by your broker
before you consider trading. Most people who trade lose money.
Sometimes when I refer people to Collective2 to have a look at a strategy, preferably mine it will show that particular page for a few seconds, and then this pop-up is blocking all reading and navigation. Escape or clicking next to that pop-up does nothing, the site is completely blocked.
This is the pop-up that wants you to log in (screenprint below). But when people are just visiting and getting to know C2, this is not very encouraging to stay on the site. For myself, if I get this type of blocking pop-up, I’m leaving the site instantly.
@MatthewKlein Is this how you meant this pop-up to work? I would strongly suggest making this much less intrusive and absolutely non-blocking.
I built that pop-up to encourage new people to register at C2. My theory (admittedly, only a theory) is that, sure, it’s vaguely annoying, but why not just register (for free!) and become a C2 member, to stop the pop-up from appearing?
But in hindsight, I think I agree with your assessment that this is a very annoying “dark pattern,” and really does feel unpleasant. Either I’ve grown as a human being (doubtful), or times have changed, and previously-accepted usability snags are no longer patiently accepted.
In any case, I’ll fiddle with this and see if we can’t make it a better experience for new people coming to C2. At a minimum, I’ll test a few alternatives, including removing it altogether, and see how it works.
Thanks for considering this and taking the time, really appreciate it
About changing times… Do you remember the pop ups old-style that would spawn an extra window outside your browser? We all thought that was cool once, late 90’s early 00’s. And then for fun put that in an infinite loop to crash that W95 pc. We all had a good laugh
