I have been told that the reason that some of the successful systems have vanished off of C2 is because the developer was made an offer he could not refuse by a hedge fund. Can anyone comment on this??

I vaguely recall this, but who knows for sure. Lots of people blow smoke here, and at the same time many good systems have probably been recruited away from here (from competing sites, hedge funds, CTAs). Any system that truly has an edge will attract professional attention. The other 95-99.5% here will not.
