Trade blotter

Hi, Cameron:

The trade blotter is designed to show orders that are: (1) still working, or (2) have had a change in status within the past minute or so (i.e. order canceled, filled, expired).

That, it seems to me, is the most useful thing to show on the trade entry screen, where one does not want a lot of clutter and where screen real-estate is precious. For a longer "history" of trades, the "Recent Trade Signals" on the system details page is probably used.

Hi, Cameron:

Actually, the "Recent Trade Signals" section does not show a random selection of signals. It truly shows all signals that were "recent" – that is, either recently posted, recently canceled, or recently expired. In addition, it shows all signals that are still "working," whether recently posted or not.

So it is a good place to answer the following questions: (1) What signals did I (system developer) just enter? (2) What signals just got executed? (3) What signals are still in a state of "working" (i.e. not canceled, not expired, not yet filled).

I suppose there is probably some use in having a screen that shows all signals, even those that were canceled or expired, and even those from long ago, but that screen does not currently exist. It would be a bit of a project to create, and so I would like to understand whether it truly is needed or not. (And indeed, there has not been a clamor for this before.) So may I ask what is the use case for this screen? That is, why would a system developer, for example, want to know which signals were cancelled, say, twenty days ago, but never filled?

I hope this message does not seem petulant or contrary, because really it is meant as a sincere investigation into what users need, and why.

Thanks -

Matthew

It would be good for prospective subscribers to see the cancelled or expired signals, because they form an important part of the picture about how the system in question works. If a system keeps moving limit orders (cancel and create new) it tells you something about the system, and also how usable it would be if you wanted to use the signals of the system only for indication (to support your own decisions), or for manual trading, and not automated trading.

The order entry screen was recently move above the trade blotter which is a good thing, but it would be nice to also have the submitted trades while executing to be be displayed just below the order entry screen and above the trade blotter as it is a lot of hassle to scroll down every time and look at the executing trade and wait for it to complete executing in order to enter new trades as the new entry in the order entry screen disappears as I am entering it just when the previously submitted order just finishes executing.
